Billy Joe (B.J.) Jackson, Jr.
There would be no Strategic Icons without Black History Month. Black History Month holds a deeply personal significance for me, rooted in the experiences of my early years. My parents, Reverend Billy Joe Jackson, Sr. and Stephanie Mintora Hughes Jackson, instilled in me and my brothers a profound respect for those who paved the way before us. Participating in Black History Month programs at my father’s church and within the community was transformative. In particular, a play my mother wrote, They Have a Dream, highlighted the resilience and achievements of African-American historical figures. It taught me the power of perseverance, even in the face of obstacles.
These experiences shaped my focus, lifting my self-esteem and inspiring me to strive for greatness while staying committed to giving back. The abolitionists, activists, inventors, scientists, Underground Railroad conductors, and countless others who came before us serve as a constant reminder of the strength in our history. Black History Month celebrates their legacies, reminds us of our collective potential, and inspires future generations to dream bigger. It’s a time to reflect on where we’ve been and the heights we can reach together.
